How Sway Bars Are Made: Complete Manufacturing Process from Raw Steel to Finished Product

The 8-Step Sway Bar Manufacturing Process

Manufacturing automotive sway bars requires precision engineering. At Taizhou Yongzheng (YZS), our IATF 16949:2016 certified facility produces over 100,000 sway bars monthly using this proven process:

Step 1: Raw Material Selection

Premium spring steels (60Si2MnA and 50CrVA) sourced from certified mills. Every batch undergoes spectral analysis and tensile testing.

Step 2: Material Cutting

CNC cutting with ±0.5mm tolerance.

Step 3: Hot Forging

Bar ends heated to 900-1100°C and forged into mounting shapes using closed-die presses.

Step 4: CNC Bending

Multi-axis CNC bending to exact vehicle specifications - the most critical step.

Step 5: Heat Treatment

Oil/polymer quenching followed by tempering at 400-500°C for HRC 42-50 hardness.

Step 6: Shot Peening

Compressive residual stress improves fatigue life by up to 50%.

Step 7: Surface Coating

E-coating or powder coating for 500+ hours salt spray resistance.

Step 8: Final Inspection

Dimensional verification, hardness testing, and fatigue testing.
