Anti Roll Bar, Also Known As Lateral Stabilizer Bar

Anti roll bar, also known as lateral stabilizer bar, is a lever that can prevent or reduce vehicle tilting.

When a car is turning, the centrifugal force causes the body to tilt outward, especially for cars with independent suspension, where the left and right wheels are independent of each other and tilt more severely. To prevent such tilting, use an elastic lever to connect the left and right suspensions.

When the car tilts, the outer suspension compresses while the inner suspension extends, thereby twisting the anti roll bar. Due to the anti roll bar's torsional strength, it can resist this kind of torsion, prevent suspension compression or extension, and thus reduce vehicle tilting. It's not that a car with an anti roll bar is better than one without one. Because the anti roll bar also plays a certain "non independent" (or integrated) role, which makes the independent suspension not completely independent and has an impact on each other.

This will inevitably affect the comfort of the vehicle. If only one side of the car's wheels are driving on uneven ground, the anti roll bar will twist and push the other side's wheel, resulting in less comfort than a car without an anti roll bar installed. If too hard anti roll bars are installed, their function is like a horizontal axis, making independent suspension a non independent suspension. Therefore, anti roll bars are generally installed in cars that prioritize sporty performance to prevent excessive body roll during aggressive driving.

When selecting an anti roll bar, multiple factors should be considered, such as the quality, diameter, length, angle, shape of the steel, whether it is hollow, and even the lining, all of which should be suitable, otherwise it may become awkward.
