The Transverse Stabilizer Bar Structure Can Be Used To Increase The Lateral Angle Stiffness Of Suspension

In order to improve the ride comfort of the vehicle, the suspension stiffness is usually designed to be relatively low, and the result is that the driving stability of the vehicle is affected. For this reason, the lateral stabilizer bar structure is used in the suspension system to improve the side Angle stiffness of the suspension and reduce the body Angle.
The function of the transverse stabilizer bar is to prevent the body from excessive lateral roll when turning, and to keep the body balanced as far as possible. The purpose is to reduce the lateral roll degree of the vehicle and improve ride comfort. The transverse stabilizer bar is actually a transverse torsion bar spring, which can be regarded as a special elastic element in function. When the body is only moving vertically, the suspension deformation on both sides is the same, and the transverse stabilizer bar does not work. When the car turns, the body is tilted, the suspension on both sides is inconsistent, the outside suspension will press to the stabilizer rod, the stabilizer rod will be distorted, the elasticity of the rod body will prevent the wheel from lifting, so that the body as far as possible to maintain balance, play a role in lateral stability.
The transverse stabilizer bar is a torsion bar spring made of spring steel, in the shape of a "U", which is placed across the front and back ends of the car. The middle part of the rod body is hinged with the body or frame with a rubber bushing, and the two ends are connected with the suspension guide arm through a rubber pad or ball pin at the side wall end.
If the left and right wheels jump up and down at the same time, that is, the body only moves vertically and the suspension deformation on both sides is equal, the lateral stabilizer bar rotates freely in the bushing, and the lateral stabilizer bar does not work.
When the suspension deformation on both sides is unequal and the body is inclined to the road, one side of the frame moves close to the spring support, the side end of the stabilizer bar moves up relative to the frame, and the other side of the frame is far away from the spring support, the corresponding stabilizer bar end moves down relative to the frame, but when the body and the frame tilt, the middle of the transverse stabilizer bar has no relative movement to the frame. In this way, when the body tilts, the longitudinal part on both sides of the stabilizer rod deflects in different directions, so the stabilizer rod is twisted, and the side arm is bent, which increases the Angle stiffness of the suspension.
The internal torsional torque generated by the elastic stabilizer bar prevents the deformation of the suspension spring, thus reducing the lateral tilt and lateral angular vibration of the body. When the torsion bar arm at both ends beats in the same direction, the transverse stabilizer bar does not work, and when the left and right wheels reverse beat, the middle part of the transverse stabilizer bar is twisted.
If the vehicle side Angle stiffness is low and the vehicle side Angle is too large, the lateral stabilizer bar should be used to increase the vehicle side Angle stiffness. Lateral stabilizer bars can be installed separately or simultaneously on the front and rear suspensions as required. When designing the lateral stabilizer bar, we should consider not only the total roll Angle stiffness of the vehicle, but also the ratio of roll Angle stiffness of the front and rear suspension. In order to make the car have understeering characteristics, the side inclination stiffness of the front suspension should be slightly larger than that of the rear suspension. Therefore, more models are installed in the front suspension lateral stabilizer bar.
Generally, the material is selected according to the design stress of the transverse stabilizer bar. At present, 60Si2MnA material is used more in China. For the use of high stress horizontal stabilizer rod, Japan recommends the use of Cr-Mn-B steel (SUP9, SuP9A), low stress stabilizer rod with carbon steel (S48C). In order to prolong the service life of the transverse stabilizer bar, shot blasting should be carried out.
In order to reduce the mass, some transverse stabilizer rods are made of hollow round tubes, and the ratio of steel tube wall thickness to outside diameter is mostly about 0.125. At this time, the outer diameter of the solid rod is increased by 11.8%, but the mass can be reduced by about 50%.
